A System-Level Synthetic Circuit Generator for FPGA Architectural Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
Architectural research for Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) tends to use an experimental approach. The benchmark circuits are used not only to compare different architectures, but also to ensure that the FPGA is sufficiently flexible to implement the desired variety of circuits. The most common benchmark circuits used for architectural research are circuits from the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC). These circuits are small; they occupy less than 3% [5] of the largest available commercial FPGA. Moreover, these circuits are more representative of the glue logic circuits that were targets of early devices. This contrasts with the trend towards implementing Systems on Chip (SoCs) on FPGAs where several functional modules are integrated into a single circuit which is mapped onto one device. In this thesis, we develop a synthetic system-level circuit generator that connects preexisting circuits in a realistic manner to build large netlists that share the characteristics of real SoC circuits. This generator is based on a survey of contemporary circuit designs from industrial and academic sources. We demonstrate that these system-level circuits scale well and that their post-routing characteristics match the results of large pre-existing benchmarks better than the results of circuits from previous synthetic generators.

Differential Power Analysis: A Serious Threat to FPGA Security
Differential Power Analysis (DPA) implies measuring the supply current of a cipher-circuit in an attempt to uncover part of a cipher key. Cryptographic security gets compromised if the current waveforms obtained correlate with those from a hypothetical power model of the circuit. As FPGAs are becoming integral parts of embedded systems and increasingly popular for cryptographic applications and...

متن کاملArchitectural descriptions for FPGA circuits
FPGA-based synthesis tools require information about behaviour and architectural to make effective use of the limited number of cells typically available. A hardware description language which models layout and behaviour is used to elegantly specify circuit architecture. This source level information is used to efficiently translate circuit descriptions onto FPGA devices.
متن کاملBuilding Custom FIR Filters Using System Generator
System Generator is a high level design tool well suited to creating custom DSP data paths in FPGAs. While providing a high level abstraction of an FPGA circuit, it can be used to build designs comparable to hand crafted implementations in terms of area and performance. In this paper we use a MAC-based FIR filter design example to demonstrate the interplay between mathematical abstraction and h...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of an Efficient Programmable Floating Point Unit with Coarse - Grained FPGA Arun
The novel method is to optimize coarse-grained floating point units (FPUs) in a hybrid FPGA by employing common sub graph extraction to determine the number of floating point adders / subtracters (FAs), multipliers (FMs) and word blocks (WBs) in the FPUs. Single precision FP adders / subtracters (FAs) and FP multipliers (FMs), with normalization are generated using standard cell library design ...
